Greetings:
May is behind us and we were fortunate to have a bit of rain and some humidity, which has helped our courses immensely! As we start June, May has really blessed us. We are in full swing with Association tournaments and regular tee times. It’s great to be playing off the new tee boxes at Alto. With that, we’ve created a new scorecard which has newly rated and sloped tees with combination tee options, as well. We hope you enjoy them.
Both Kachina Doll and Snowcapper registrations have occurred and filled; rapidly! Since we have transitioned to using Golf Genius tournament software, everything is readily available online to go to the tournament portal and register for events, as well as look at results at your fingertips. Sometimes change is difficult, but we are always willing to help any who may have questions about any of this. If you are reading this, please follow these instructions to simplify your world in getting to the ALGCC TOURNAMENT PORTAL.
- Go to www.altolakesgolf.com
- Under Golf, select “2023 Tournament Calendar”
- Click Golf Tournament Portal – once you have done this, you are now seeing the entire ALGCC Tournament Calendar, where you can navigate between all Associations, Other Events (which are Club-run), as well as Mixed Couples. Once you are here, you can save this page to your home screen (whether it be your phone, computer, iPad, etc). It will then be an icon on your device that all you have to do is click on to view all tournament activity. If you need assistance with adding this to your home screen on your device, please come see us at Alto and any of us can help!
Some of you may be wondering where our new cart fleet is; we are, too! Unfortunately, our delivery date is now June 15
th. None of us are pleased with this but it is what it is. We hope that it may be sooner, but it looks unlikely. On a positive note, we are looking forward to having 60 new Yamaha Lithium carts down at Outlaw!
NEW FACES: By now, you have seen many new faces on our golf staff. It is great to have our 2023 H2B help on the ground at Alto! We feel we have a great team with lots of experience. We look forward to having them with us through mid-fall. These individuals come from various countries, including South Africa, England, Mexico, just to name a few. Please stop by and say “hello.”
NEW AMENITIES: We are happy to finally have our practice range open at Alto; finally! Although we are still limited on shot distances, it is nice to have it open and more operationally functional! It will still be tested by monsoonal rains, which aren’t here yet. The front hill design is working well as it runs most of the balls down to the grass. Again, erosion will test this, but Glenn and crew will be proactive fixing any problems as they happen. Situations like this will always require a temporary closure to fix. We still have to keep up with hand-picking up balls off line. We will use the time right after play day shotguns to do that. Approximately two hours immediately after the shotgun, this will occur. At Outlaw, we have added some yardage devices by FLAGD that magnetically adhere to the bag stands. These are accurate to each target flag by GPS. Each time we reset the range, we hit a button and they recalculate to the flags. We hope you enjoy them.
Twice a year for the last 13 years (with a few exceptions), a group of golfers get together for the Ghost Rider Invitational Cup. Originally started by Frank Moldonado, and perpetuated by Gary Wolverton, this Match Play invitational tournament only gets better each year. The guys take one day to dress up in their Plus-Fours, which gets them extra incentives. Read more about the Ghost Rider Cup Invitational in the History Bite.
HOLE-IN-ONE REPORT: We have three holes in one to report. On 5/9 at Alto, Gary Wolverton aced the 17
th hole at Alto from 110 yards with a 9-iron. Al Bentley, Ron Travis, John Clarke, and Frank Maldonado were there to witness. Also on 5/9, Kevin Pfister knocked it in on #3 at Alto with a sand wedge. This was his first ever, and witnessed by his wife Linda, as well as Jimmy and Donna Taylor. On 5/19, Bill Erwin holed it on #7 at Alto with an 8-iron, for his first hole-in-one! Great job, boys!
Are you in the Hole-in-One Club? If you are interested, please contact Charisse Wadsworth at
[email protected]. The program costs $5 per person and reloads each time a hole-in-one participant makes a hole-in-one. Each Golf Shop has a simple form to fill out should you have one. Inquire at either Golf Shop for the form.
