Rule, Britannia, when King (Charles III)-sized fun dominates Alto Lakes Tennis Association’s
(ALTA’s) most popular event: Breakfast at Wimbledon!
On Saturday, July 15, at 9 AM at the Outlaw Courts, ALTA celebrates the (ahem–proper name here!) All-England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club Championships during official play, July 3 - 16, 2023, in Wimbledon, a London, England suburb.
But first. . .
First Racquet returns, also on Monday, July 3, at 10 AM on the Outlaw Courts, with check-in at 9:45 AM. This popular program introduces your kids and grandkids to your favorite lifetime sport. Equipment, instruction, and fun provided. Check it out–and volunteer! Contact Belinda Campbell at [email protected] for more information.
Now, back to Breakfast at Wimbledon, July 15!
Don your crispest whites for fun mixed doubles competition– ability grouped, of course –playing with Slazenger Balls, just like Novak Djokovic.
Then refresh yourself with Breakfast at Wimbledon’s traditional strawberries and cream, crumpets, Earl Grey tea, Pimm’s Cups, and more. Veddy British, y’know.
Brekkie at Wimbledon is also ALTA’s annual meeting; you won’t want to miss that, either.
Sign up on Foretees under Events. This event is included in ALTA membership; accompanied guests pay $5. Pip, pip, and cheerio!
Test your Wimbledon knowledge!
Popularly known as Wimbledon or Wimbledon Championships, this third of four Grand Slams is the most popular, most well-known, most prestigious, and oldest of the Grand Slams. How much do you know about Wimbledon? Take this fun Quiz and see!
- Wimbledon is the only Grand Slam played on which surface?
- What are Wimbledon’s Official Colours?
- True or False?
- Players entering or leaving Centre Court must bow or curtsy to the Royal Box. Which English monarch was a keen tennis player, according to legend?
- What is Wimbledon’s traditional dessert? Why?
- Can an ordinary non-playing visitor tour Wimbledon?
- If Breakfast at Wimbledon is the third Grand Slam event, what was the second?
Answers: 1. Grass, and it’s manicured to perfection. 2. Dark green and purple
3. Both True and False! Bow or curtsey only if His Majesty the King or His Royal Highness the Prince of Wales is present. 4. Henry VIII. This was during his youth, when he was very athletic and tennis was played indoors. 5. Strawberries and cream, allegedly because when Hank 8 visited Hampton Court, a few miles from Wimbledon, he liked the dessert. It helps that strawberries are in season at that time. 6. Yes! In fact, in 2013, I did just that. Tours run when there is no play scheduled; I even sampled strawberries and cream!
7. ALTA’s French Open on June 3, of course! ALTA members, resplendent in French Tri-colors, played Round Robin fun mixed doubles, nibbling French pastries and sipping French bubbly in between matches. Tres jolie! (Lots of fun!) everyone agreed. Check out the pix!
But, wait, there’s more!
You don’t have to wait for a summer event to enjoy tennis fun. All summer (and year-long, too), ALTA is your site for unlimited tennis fun, with scheduled play every week. Contact Paul Braun ([email protected]) for men’s doubles; Elaine Wedgeworth for ladies’ doubles ([email protected]), or just show up on court #2 on Fridays at 9:30am.
But, wait, there’s even more! Join ALTA!
ALTA membership includes all social events and club play. Members may bring guests for a nominal fee. All levels of play are welcome.
Tennis, everyone!
